Noise pollution is the real poison of our planet-By: Michele De Capitani
Even if the title is deliberately forced and in an opposite trend, noise pollution is for real one of the greatest trouble of modern civilization. In fact, the actual society ferment foresees always open construction sites, airports with more and more traffic, crowded nightclubs and overall an increasing heavy industrialization, all these phenomenon put under big pressure the eardrums of almost 50 million people just in Italy (source: World Health Organization). How is it possible to reduce this kind of pollution? Very often to solve this problem committees dedicated to this problem arise in every city, but unfortunately regulations and legislation in this sector are still undeveloped and the various interpretations are very different from one another. But what does it practically mean noise pollution and what are the complications that it can cause to the human body?To this purpose, this kind of pollution can easily be compared to the most classical spoil of the urban and natural habitat by mankind and by his efforts in modifying the natural environment he lives in. When the damage is caused by a protracted and excessive exposition to high intensity noises, the pollution threshold level is of course surpassed. Every time the pollution threshold level is surpassed, the noise can generate some very serious physical and mental problems such as: deafness and other auditory illnesses, but also the stress level grows and by consequence also the hypertension. As we said before, noise pollution is mainly caused by construction sites, airports, traffic and air traffic, but also and in particular by factories. This is just why all these activities have always been decentralized from the rural life and located at the city boundaries. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, it depends from which side you are looking at this trouble, population keeps increasing in number but without any kind of structured development. This would require some kind of territorial and spatial development plan for the city that also lacks natural resources. These two problems summoned together lead up to the maximum exploitation of the areas surrounding these noise sources (and so also pollution sources). The main causes of noise pollution in Italy are construction sites, airports, traffic and factories. It is just keeping in mind this last and fundamental detail that we all need to work together in order to limit at most every type of high intensity noise emission. This can be possible just investing on the research and development sector and equipping heavy industry factories, for example, with soundproofing cabins where machines that utter strong noises can be all contained. Also some kind of air treatment turn out to be fundamental, because is a real natural soundproofing system, for all these reasons it is very important to study and project the best possible air treating systems in order to silently convey air fluxes and this way exploit every isolating characteristics of this natural elements. It is also fundamental, then, for every enterprise and civil house, the use of soundproof materials to apply on houses and factories’ walls, this allows the external noise not coming into our houses and in the meanwhile limiting the emissions outside of the domestic or industrial noise pollution.

AVOIDING PANIC ATTACK DURING PUBLIC SPEAKING

>> Friday, August 14, 2009

By: suegold
Many people associate a panic attack and public speaking. They usually have had an anxiety-producing public speaking experience. They may test that past memory of public speaking again, but often the same anxiety reaction results. People who have to speak publicly on a frequent basis and suffer from panic attacks are always searching for a panic attack remedy.Amber's StoryAmber had many risk factors for panic attacks when she entered high school. Her mother had a history of anxiety as well as her older brother. Amber was successfully able to avoid a speech class until her final semester of school. In order to graduate, she was going to have to take speech.Although she had never received a diagnosis of panic attacks or an anxiety disorder, Amber had always dreaded taking a public speaking class. Just the idea of standing up in front of a class of her peers caused Amber to feel dizzy and nauseous. When Amber walked into her first day of class, the teacher could see how nervous she was. He came up to Amber after class and discussed her obvious discomfort with this public speaking class. Amber discussed her physical reaction to having to speak in front of her peers. She explained to her teacher how she was:* Extremely Anxious* Dizzy* Nauseous* Short of BreathAmber's teacher recommended that she visit with the school counselor before their next class meeting. Amber was embarrassed by her reaction and was even more anxious about having to meet with the school counselor, but she knew that she was not going to be able to graduate if she could not figure out some way to get through this class. The school counselor was very familiar with the signs of a panic attack and especially with students feeling uncomfortable about speaking in front of their friends. To help Amber get through her next day of speech class the counselor recommended that Amber stand up in front of her family every time she wanted to talk that evening. So Amber told her family what she was trying to do to help get over her fear of public speaking. At dinner, Amber stood up every time she asked to have an item passed to her. Before bed, Amber stood in front of her parents and brothers and did a pretend speech.Although speaking in front of her family was a lot different than speaking in front of her peers, it did help her get through the next day of class without having a full blown panic attack. Amber was extremely uncomfortable during her speech class but was able to focus and get through the class. As the semester continued on, Amber asked some of her friends to come to her house the night before she had a big speech due. She would then practice her speech on her close friends and family until she was able to get through it without an extreme amount of anxiety. The technique Amber used to overcome her panic attacks is called systematic desensitization and is one of the most widely used remedies for people suffering from panic attacks.

6 WAYS TO GAIN CONFIDENCE

By: LA Ziegler
Are you shy? Do you have difficulty coping with people or situations? Then I have good news for you. You do not have to suffer from shyness and you should not feel insecure and fear that you are being judged with every step you take. Winning the war with shyness takes practice, but is definitely well worth the effort as the result is increasing confidence and self esteem. Wake up feeling good about yourself, able to face the world with confidence and security and the knowing that no feeling of shyness can come in your way of achieving your desires. There are hundreds of books written on the subject of how beat shyness and gain confidence, but there are a few techniques that anyone can practice. Here are 6 suggestions of techniques on how to overcome your shyness: 1. Every morning, as soon as you get up, get in front of a mirror and say out loud "I feel terrific! I feel terrific! I feel terrific!" Repeat this affirmation with enthusiasm at least ten times everyday until it's ingrained into your subconscious mind. If feel a little self conscious to begin with lock yourself in the bathroom. The results will amaze you. 2. Feel good about yourself. Look your best. Dress up more often. This gives you an extra feeling of confidence and self esteem. On its own just knowing that you look good will boost your confidence and reinforce with others that there are things about you that are worth getting to know. 3. Take a risk at least once a day. It's very invigorating and conquering fears by taking risks helps you grow in confidence and self esteem. Start with small risks and fears and as you overcome them move onto bigger things. There's nothing you cannot do. Be confident in knowing that change can only help you grow, and boost your self confidence. 4. When you are engaged in a one to one conversation, or with a larger group of people, let them know that you're shy. This prevents them from misreading you and they are far more likely to invite you into the conversation rather than leave you just listening and wishing you could contribute. Many people, me included, find following a conversation in a noisy room difficult. If you are having difficulty say so and move so that you can hear. People respect honesty, and vulnerability and you will attract more honest people into your life as a result. 5. Rejection is a fact of life that everyone experiences. It is rarely you that is being rejected. If you are rejected, for example if you ask someone for a date, remember that everyone has different likes and dislikes. You may be attracted to one type of person and not others. The same applies to other people and you are probably just not their type. That does not devalue you in any way. Accept this and know that you will get over it. Never take it personally and keep in mind that if people reject you it is because of their own likes and dislikes and not because of who you are. You are equally entitled to reject others because of your likes and dislikes. 6. Engage in an activities that make you feel excited and good about yourself or start a hobby that gives you a feeling of relaxation. This could be anything from gardening to Tai Chi to Karate. Take some lessons, learn or master a musical instrument or take singing lessons. Do something that excites you and take a risk. Exploring things that make you feel excited is a great antidote for shyness.

FOUNDATIONS OF WORLD UNITY

>> Wednesday, June 3, 2009

There is not one soul whose conscience does not testify that in this day there is no more important matter in the world than that of Universal Peace. Every just one bears witness to this and adores that esteemed Assembly because its aim is that this darkness may be turned into light, this bloodthirstiness into kindness, this torment into bliss, this hardship into ease and this enmity and hatred into fellowship and love. Therefore the effort of those esteemed souls is worthy of praise and commendation.
But the wise souls who are aware of the essential relationships emanating from the realities of things consider that one single matter cannot, by itself, influence the human reality as it ought and should, for until the minds of men become united, no important matter can be accomplished. At present Universal Peace is a matter of great importance, but unity of conscience is essential, so that the foundation of this matter may become secure, its establishment firm and its edifice strong.
